Hi! I'm Allikz Seavey, I'm 13, and a 4th generation dog musher. My grandpa is 3-time Iditarod champion Mitch Seavey. The Iditarod is a 1,000 mile race that starts in Willow and ends in Nome, Alaska. In the summer my family does dog sled rides in Seward. I have been working full time with the tours since I was 11. I started out harnessing dogs, handing out puppies, cleaning cabins and shoveling up after dogs! So disgusting!! Finally, for the first time I was able to do the back half of our tour. In the back half, we dress someone up in the clothing we use on the Iditarod, dress up our lead dog Crisp in booties, dog coat and wrist wrap, talk about the sleds we use and the mandatory gear. The hardest part of it was that I had to get up in front of about 30 people and answer their questions with out being scared! Afterwards I felt like it went great, and the guests on the tour were great! They tipped me more than my dad has paid me all summer! I hope I can keep doing tours because I really don't like cleaning up after dogs!!
I look forward to reading your posts about mushing. I find it fascinating. I hope to visit Alaska one day and would like to add your family’s kennels and tours to my to do list
ReplyDeleteAs a recently retired teacher who loves learning about mushing and sled dogs I know I'll enjoy following your blog. Sounds like you're doing an awesome job with the tours!
ReplyDeleteAww yes the cleaning up after the dogs is not a fun job but it is part of being a dog musher or for that matter anyone that owns and cares for dogs. Looking forward to reading more of your posts. I will share your blog to my kennel FB page too. Enjoy
